The Accreditation Association has developed the following resources to help its accredited organizations understand the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Included is:

HIPAA Overview: This is an overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, including information on electronic transaction provisions, privacy provisions and security provisions.

HIPAA Resource List: This is a collection of links, additional information and resources on HIPAA.

The Accreditation Association Business Associate Agreement: To assist its accredited organizations, the Accreditation Association has developed a “business associate agreement” to meet the HIPAA requirements for the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identified Health Information (45 CFR Parts 160 and 164).
